In Sept. 2013, the series finale of Breaking Bad aired. The climactic conclusion to the story of Walter White left fans almost universally satisfied, but anyone who has watched the series might wonder what happened to the major supporting character, Jesse Pinkman, after the finale. For six years, fans debated the fate of the fan-favorite character until it was announced that a Breaking Bad film called El Camino starring Aaron Paul, the actor for Jesse Pinkman, would be released on Netflix in Oct. 2019 directed by Breaking Bad creator, Vince Gilligan. Finally, the rumors would be put to rest, and the story of Jesse would be concluded.

The first thing to note is that you have to watch all of Breaking Bad to understand the film, and diving deeply into the film for this review would require having to spoil much of the series. With this in mind, I strongly recommend that you watch Breaking Bad, as I feel it deserves all of the attention and praise it has received, even years after its conclusion. All five seasons of the show can be streamed on Netflix.

The film follows Jesse from the moments immediately after the series finale, and the story centers around Jesse trying to start a new life for himself. Even after not playing the character for years, Aaron Paul, who was nominated five times for the best supporting actor in a drama series at the Emmys, and winning three, is still able to play the character of Jesse better than ever. We even see Aaron play Jesse across multiple different time periods of his life, as the film follows many flashbacks scenes as Jesse remembers the worst moments of his life.

At the end of the day, the film is an emotional action-drama that can only really be appreciated by those who have given the show a complete watch. I highly recommended the show, and for those who have seen the show, El Camino should be the next on your list.
