After months of preparation from athletes statewide, the state swimming and diving meet originally scheduled for Feb. 19-20, was postponed a second time due to the winter weather storm that swept across Texas.
The two-day meet has been rescheduled for March 1-2 leaving Redhawks sophomore Maria Oushalkas, and senior Mallory Showalter, more time to prepare.
“I was disappointed that [the meet] was postponed but I have been training and working hard to get ready for the meet,” Showalter said via text. “My goals are to swim my personal best times and to win a medal at state.”
The second postponement is just another opportunity for Oushalkas to practice.
“It hasn’t affected me all that much,” Oushalkas said via text. “I’m glad they pushed it back since it allowed for me to get back into shape after being out because of the storm. I’m hoping to get the best times and even try to place in the top 8 in the 200 free.”
