The induction ceremony for the National Honor Society is after school Thursday at 6 p.m.

But like most things this year, things will be different.

After being cancelled last year, this year there’s going to be a ceremony, but it won’t be in the auditorium.

“After being cancelled last year, this year there is going to be a ceremony, but it won’t be in the auditorium,” NHS sponsor Kelli Duckworth said. “We’re doing a drive-by ceremony this time. We decided that was probably the safest alternative to our traditional ceremony. Usually we do it in the auditorium but there’s over a hundred applicants that are getting inducted and also parents and family that would come, and that’s just a lot of people for that small space. So, instead we’re allowing students to watch the program of it ahead of time so they’ll get a video email to them with the officers talking about the pillars of NHS, the induction, the whole process to it, and then they can drive up to to campus with their family and they can get out and take a picture. They can sign the book and everything, but it’s all outside socially distanced. We felt that was a safer alternative this year even though the induction ceremony won’t be the same.

Even though the induction ceremony won’t be the same, sophomore Caroline Grace Caruso is thankful they are getting to celebrate the accomplishments of students.

“I still feel like an induction like NHS gives people some sort of normality even though in and of itself it’s not completely back to 100 percent normal, I still think that students are being celebrated, and that’s still something that is very necessary in school because that keeps us motivated to keep going in our academics,” Caruso said. “Last year was really hard because we were virtual, but I think that this year because of Zoom and because of in-person, both are kind of getting to come together and be celebrated for their accomplishments.”
