Some people say that it’s the spring season, and some even debate that it’s basically summer now. But for me and many others: it’s graduation season- and with graduation season, comes many celebratory rituals by my mom. I’ve reiterated before that Bengalis take celebrations very seriously- I mean, I’ve talked about all of the pujas and how seriously we take them. But, my family in specific saves the “big” and “complicated” dishes for very special occasions. Food people would normally eat during pujas or birthdays, my mom makes only for especially special events. In this case, my graduation. I’m not even exaggerating. The last time my parents slaved away in the kitchen was for my sister’s graduation. That was 8 years ago. And now, it’s my turn.

I think my parents do this because my siblings and I never grew up hearing them say “I’m proud of you” or “I love you”, so this is their way of being very sentimental and really showing how much they support us. I’m not complaining- it’s food! Maybe I’ll get some shrimp curry or even some chicken curry. Who knows?
