Do you like a good cup of coffee in the morning? It’s a morning habit for a lot of people and is a way that they start the day. Like with a lot of things, having some every day is a good thing, but too much starts to cause problems.

The good news is that caffeine in coffee is good for you. Caffeine is a stimulant that is found in coffee, tea and cacao plants. Historians have found it dating back to Ethiopian farmers who discovered that when their goats ate coffee beans they were more energetic. Today, coffee is the most valuable legally traded commodity in the world second only to oil with 2.25 billion cups served every day.

A cup of coffee every morning is found to be good for you. Studies show that it can improve help in a number of ways including boosting your metabolism, improve mood and brain function and protect against heart disease. The problem is what happens when you have too much of something. Unfortunately, too much of a good thing can be bad for you.

Too much caffeine can have serious problems. Anxiety is a big one. A study in twenty five healthy men showed that those who had small amounts of caffeine every day showed more than twice the amount of stress than those who took a placebo. Other studies showed that too much caffeine could also be responsible for muscle breakdown, high blood pressure, insomnia and digestive issues.

The good news is that scientists say that the right amount of coffee to have per day is four cups. This means that you should be able to drink enough coffee every day to start the day without overdoing it.
