Looking for a win to start the 2021-2022 season, the boys’ basketball team goes against Prosper on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at The Nest in District 9-5A play.

“We had a really good spring and a good summer of building a good culture, and this fall has been really productive as well,” head coach Stephen Friar said. “We’ve just been having good practices and doing a lot of team camaraderie things, and trying to just make sure we are all focused on the same thing going into Saturday.”

Senior Drew Johnson, the only senior on the team, feels confident going into Saturday’s game.

“If we show up and everybodys ready to play I feel like we have a very good chance of winning that game,” Johnson said. “I mean we came out and played one of our best games last year against Prosper because we were all excited for the season to start, and I feel like we’re feeling the same way this year, so if we play our good basketball you can expect a 1-0 in the books.”

Being a team composed of mostly juniors, Friar says many on the team are new to varsity play but the team is ready for this season.

“We’re a very young group and a very inexperienced overall group when it comes to varsity play, but also a very talented group,” Friar said. “And the kids have the right mental makeup, so I think that they’re going to do great things for this year. We’re just going to keep sticking with it, staying together and we’ll be fine.”
