One year after falling to the Little Elm Lobos 47-45 at the Nest, the Redhawks were two points better this year, as the boys’ basketball team brought back their second win in a row after beating the Lobos in overtime 59-57 Tuesday in Little Elm.

“I thought they did great, it was really some true grit from the team,” assistant coach Bruce Wright said. “Last year we played Little Elm, and it was a close game and we lost it in kind of some late game situations. And this year the game goes into overtime and it was kind of a flipped script, so it is like coming of age getting a little older and a little bit more mature and able to finish close games like that. So it was an encouraging sign for what is to come this season.”

Scoring the final points in overtime, senior Drew Johnson helped seal the win for the Redhawks.

“We came out quick, we played good in the first half,  I think we had a little complacent in the second half and came out looking kind of sloppy,” Johnson said. “But then kind of got bailed out here and there, took it to overtime with clutch free throws from Trenton [Walters], and we closed out in overtime and came out ready to play.”

Scoring 20 points against the Lobos, junior Trenton Walters is looking to keep the momentum going into the season.

“I think we played well, we played as a team,” Walters said. “Working on defensive rebounding and continuing to be confident in ourselves.”
