Facing off against Reedy, Centennial, and Memorial, Thursday at the Bruce Eubanks Natatorium the Redhawk swim team used its final meet of the season as preparation for the District 9-5A meet on Jan. 21.

“A lot of focus on the small things,” head coach Nick Dion said. “Flip turns, underwaters, finishes. It is all of the little things that can win or cost you a race. I feel like we have some swimmers that are about to post their best times and have a great showing.”

For junior Maria Oushalkas, the meet was all about getting ready for the march to state.

“This meet, me and my team learned that the difference between winning and losing is in the details,” Oushalkas said. “In swimming, a single breath can be the difference between first and second. That’s what makes swimming so exciting sometimes, it’s down to the milliseconds. So technique involving breath control, the technique, and the strategy of the race are all crucial details.”
