As the forecast calls for snow and ice, Frisco cancels school for Thursday and Friday. This has given the opportunity to students and teachers to have a short break.

With the forecast calling for snow and ice, Frisco ISD is following the lead of other school districts in the area and closing all schools and offices Thursday and Friday.

“Frisco ISD will be closed for instruction and business on Thursday and Friday, February 3-4, 2022 due to anticipated inclement weather and poor road conditions,” a news release posted on Friscoisd.org said. “Events scheduled for Wednesday after school and all day Thursday and Friday are also canceled.”

As a result of the closures Thursday and Friday, the district plans to utilize the bad weather make-up days on the calendar for April 18 and April 25. School districts can apply for a waiver from the Texas Education Agency, but that is not something Frisco ISD has done at this time.

“[The district is not considering asking for a waiver] at this time,” Frisco ISD Assistant Director of Communications Meghan Cone said via email. “We plan to utilize the days built into the school calendar for making up lost instructional time. Those days are April 18 and April 25. Since we are losing one A day and one B day this week, one of the make-up days will be an A day and one will be a B day. It has not yet been determined which day will be an A day and which day will be a B day.”

Having two unexpected days off school Thursday and Friday has junior Amish Bhatnagar looking forward to taking a break from school and getting caught up on missing assignments.

“I don’t think the sheer amount of snow will be as much as last year, but I still think some parts of Texas will most definitely struggle with loss of electricity and access to hot water just like last year,” Bhatnagar said. “I would say this long weekend gives me and many others the change to rejuvenate and step back from school while not really missing in person class time.”
