Wearing her Frisco ISD class of 2020 graduation masks provided by Jostens, principal Ashley Rainwater stands on the field at Toyota Stadium for graduation on Saturday, May 30, 2020.

Earlier this week, Principal Ashley Rainwater announced that she will not be returning to campus for the 2022-2023 school year.

“I had always thought that I would finish my career in a high school, but this position is one where I’m working with principals, supporting them and offering them guidance, and helping make a connection between the district and the campuses in the district,” Rainwater said. “It really felt like a good fit for me.”

I’ve been working for her for the last 7 years and she’s an amazing boss and really supportive, and funny, so we’re gonna miss her deeply next year

During her years on campus, Rainwater has made an impact on teachers and students alike, including social studies teacher Sarah Wiseman.

“As someone who’s worked for her for the last 7 years, I know how amazing she is and how amazing she is, I’m so excited for her personally,” Wiseman said. “She’s an amazing boss and really supportive, and funny, so we’re gonna miss her deeply next year.”

Rainwater’s departure is bittersweet for student council president Alyssa Murphy, who she has closely collaborated with.

“I think her creativity and wisdom is something that will get her very far wherever she is, so I can’t wait to see what Ms.Rainwater is going to do,” Murphy said. “I’ll definitely miss her, and I’ll miss Liberty as a graduating senior.”

So I may be leaving, and I don’t know who’s left, but I have no doubt that the tradition of excellence here will continue.

As Rainwater heads into a future off-campus, she reflects on the past as a principal and a Redhawk.

“I do want to say that my last 11 years have been phenomenal, and I do want everybody to realize that it’s not the principal that makes the school, it’s the students and the teachers that work together and create an environment in which everybody succeeds,” Rainwater said. “So I may be leaving, and I don’t know who’s left, but I have no doubt that the tradition of excellence here will continue.”
