The Frisco ISD CTE Competitive Mock Trial Team, who placed 2nd at the state competition last year, is holding a mandatory informational parent meeting covering requirements for tryouts Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the CTE Center.

“We look for people with high academic skills, who are well spoken, extroverted, and willing to play a character in front of others,” coach Ben Ewald said. “There is a non-subjective scoring system that is used to get a baseline score of each person trying out and then we go from there.”

The team will be composed of those who fit the requirements and perform the best during tryouts.

For returning member, Wakeland sophomore Avishi Pandya, embracing the mock trial characters is key.

“It feels amazing to be able to aid new members through the process that I went through last year,” Pandya said. “As someone who got on the team for being able to exhibit character traits, I believe if you can fully embody the character and understand what that character is going through, you have a good shot.”

Unsure about the tryout process, Heritage sophomore Atifa Basha was quickly put at ease by the team.

“When I first got the information for mock trial it was kind of scary just because I didn’t really know much about it,” Basha said, “But when I walked into the courtroom for my tryout, the atmosphere was alleviated by the coaches and attorneys as they all just encouraged me to do the best I can.”
