On Tuesday, Mary Jane McCurdy was awarded the MaxPreps Texas Volleyball Player of the Week presented by the American Volleyball Coaches Association for the week of Sept. 26 through Oct. 2. “She was injured all last year and it was really hard for us, so it’s really great to see her getting the recognition she deserves,” head volleyball coach Eighmy Dobbins said.

Aiming to continue their undefeated season in District 10-5A, the volleyball team faces the Centennial Titans at The Nest at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

“I think our last couple games in preseason were really difficult and we got the opportunity to figure out what we needed to work on,” head coach Eighmy Dobbins said. “Now we’ve done a good job of executing and becoming a better team and we are just constantly keeping building on our momentum and district.”

The team has won three consecutive games in District 10-5A, and for senior Mandy Duckworth this gives her momentum going into Tuesday.

“I just think that we’re really prepared and we’ve been on a winning streak so I think that’s giving us a lot of momentum in tonight’s game,” Duckworth said. “We’ve been doing a bunch of serving drills because that mentally and physically prepares you. We’ve been missing a lot of easy serving points, and I think mentally it’s tough, but we’ve been working on it with the drills.”
