The Redhawk basketball teams tip off their season with their annual Midnight Madness on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at The Nest.

“My favorite part is the fact that it is a chance for the school and community to get excited about basketball season,” head boys’ basketball coach Stephen Friar said. “It is fall and we are in Texas, so everyone is in football mode and our volleyball team is in a great year, so it’s really to highlight the basketball programs that have traditionally been really good. This is really a showcase of them.”

This event marks the start of the 2022-2023 basketball season, and features a DJ and performances from cheer and the drill team.

“My favorite part about midnight madness is getting to see the Redhawk community come out and get a little sneak peak of what the season will look like this year,”  junior Ayra Osman said. “I think this event is a great way to kick off the season because it gets everyone excited and sheds a spotlight on the official start of both seasons. We have pretty solid teams on all three levels, so I’m just ready to see our Lady Redhawks compete this season, and I think Midnight Madness is a fun way to do that.”

For senior Jonathan Dupree-Buford, the energy of Midnight Madness is what makes it a strong season opener.

“My favorite part about midnight madness is just being with my teammates and the people that come to support us and showing off our talents,” Dupree-Buford said. “I think it’s a good way to start off the season because we give people a preview of what the season has to come.”

On the girls’ side,  junior Keyera Roseby looks forward to the girls’ vs. boys’ competitions featured in the event.

“This is an amazing way to kick off the season because fans get to see what we are working with this year and players all have a great time,” Roseby said. “My favorite part is probably the 5 v 5. It’s such a good environment and very exciting.”
