In different cultures, a wedding ceremony can be celebrated in many different ways. Growing up Indian, I never got to experience the bride walking down the aisle in a white gown. I was confused by this and decided that I would wear a white dress to my wedding. However, in the past years, I have truly enjoyed seeing brides wearing bright red dresses. Not only the dresses, but Indian and American weddings share many differences.

An American wedding usually lasts a day or two. For Indian weddings, the celebrations usually go on for a week. Every day there is some new event taking place in which all of the events combined, last a while. During this week, it’s complete chaos. Everyone has to have a different outfit picked out for each event and for most girls, a new makeup look as well.

Indian outfits are completely different from American ones. Throwing on a simple gown, won’t cut it for these events. Putting an Indian outfit on, usually entails setting aside a three piece outfit, which will take at least 15 to 20 minutes to put on and zip up (with someone helping you.)

For a typical Indian wedding, about 4 to 5 outfits are needed. And they will require you to save up as well! Each outfit can run you about anywhere from $150-$500!

Indian weddings are super fun and if you’re ever invited to one, you must take the opportunity to go! It’ll definitely be an experience you will never forget.
