The Redhawks wrestling teams competed in the Santa Slam where they faced 6A schools. Being a team composed of mainly underclassmen, this tournament gave the team some challenges.

The wrestling teams went festive over the weekend with the Santa Slam where they lost 57-18 to Coppell and 46-35 to Flower Mound in their duals and faced more 6A teams in their tournament.

“We love this tournament because it brings in a lot of good teams but the more important part is it’s a charity event,” co-head coach Justin Koons said. “They do an annual coat drive for the homeless. They ask that every team participate and bring in as many coats, pants, gloves, hats, etc. to be collected and handed out to shelters for the winter season. It’s a great opportunity to give back.”

For the girls, the Santa Slam brought challenging competition according to junior Taylor Clapp.

“Santa slam was a large eye opener for some of our younger girls,” Clapp said. “This was more of a 5A tournament, which showed who we were really up against. The team did well overall. Mercede Alvarez won with a pin and I won 3rd. We still have a long way to go, but I am really looking forward to this next tournament.”
