Hola amigos. Today we are going to make a delicious salsa. With the warmer weather, this salsa is the perfect fresh and cooling dip to tortilla chips. For this recipe, you will need two unexpected things: date syrup and a potato masher. But trust me, my method of making it will take your salsa from sabroso (tasty) to realmente delicioso (really delicious).
Ingredients:
2 large tomatoes
½ serrano pepper
1 small white onion
1 lime
A dash of cayenne pepper
2-3 tbsp date syrup
¼ – ½ tsp Himalayan salt
Tortilla chips of your choice (since I don’t eat corn, I love using these chips by Siete)
Instructions:
Making the Salsa:
Roughly chop the tomatoes into small pieces and add them to a bowl
Lightly mash the tomatoes with a potato masher till some juice is released
Very finely chop ½ of a serrano pepper and mix into the tomatoes
Very finely chop an onion and add to the bowl
Juice one lime and add the juice to the bowl
Add a dash of cayenne pepper and add ¼ -½ tsp of himalayan salt
Finally add in about 2-3 tbsp of data syrup to the bowl and give it a good mix (the date syrup helps add texture, sweetness and overall enhances the taste of the tomatoes)
Let it sit for 5-10 minutes if time allows
Serving:
Arrange the salsa into a bowl and surround with tortilla chips
Squeeze some lime juice onto the tortilla chips for an even greater experience
Buen provecho (enjoy)
