High school students throughout Frisco ISD are going to have a few more options when choosing their courses for the 2023-24 school year as five new classes are being offered.

“They are advanced level coursework where students are going to get some experiential opportunities in the real world,” FISD Associate Deputy Superintendent Wes Cunningham said in an interview with Community Impact. “They’ll get a chance to really exhibit what a future-ready learner in Frisco ISD is.”

These classes are contributing to students’ ability to build on prior knowledge and prepare for higher level education whether that be in college or directly into job prospects.

“I think it’s good that these courses are offered with internships,” senior Kennedy Eder said. “This allows for students to go into college with a good resume and good experience for a future career field.”

The number of new courses for the upcoming school year is slightly higher than what is typical, and students are already catching wind of the newest additions.

“It’s always great to see the course selection expanding,” junior Dasha Alston said. “These new classes will be a great way for students to experiment with different career fields and discover their interests.”

There’s hope for more specially designed courses following the example of these extended elective pathways.

“I’m glad that there are more internship opportunities available to high school students,” Alston said. “I just wish that more classes would offer the same.”
