“No hugs right now, go sit down.”

Hugs. You either love them, or you hate them.

My love language is physical touch… but I’m also kind of obsessive compulsive, so germs are a big thing.

Let’s just say I won’t sit on my bed in my “day clothes.”

Don’t get me wrong, hugs are great, but hugs every 10 minutes by the same kid is a little bit too much for me.

This one-third grader uses hugging as an outlet and comes over to wrap her arms around the teacher and I every couple of minutes.

Now a normal hug would be fine, but sometimes her hugs get a little… hands on, even though she doesn’t mean to do that.

It’s so sad because she struggles sometimes in class with her emotions, so having to tell her that now is not the time and that she needs to sit down is hard.

Teaching is finding the balance between love and tough love. You have to know when to guide with the handlebars and when to just run behind the bike. That’s just how it is.
