Picking the right college or university can be a life altering decision. To help with the process, Frisco ISD is hosting a Find Your Future Night Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Heritage High School.

“I’m unsure of the whole college application process,” sophomore Erin Nese said. “I like that the district is offering some sort of guidance along with colleges so the students know what to do if they’re unsure like me.”

Each of the Find Your Future Nights highlights different college options from state schools to private schools. Thursday’s focus is on Historically Black Colleges and Universities. 

Pre-Calculus teacher, Yasmine Secrist, graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana, an HBCU. 

“Going to an HBCU I was very immersed in my community, the black community,” Secrist said. “Traditionally HBCUs tend to be smaller schools and that was what I liked about it. The teachers knew us by name and they even invited us into their homes and made us dinner. It was overall an amazing experience.” 

“I honestly have not given college much thought just because it’s super stressful,” sophomore Olivia Chamberlain said. “However, I do think going to a college that supports racial minorites may be beneficial and interesting.” 

Information such as college admissions, financial aid, degree programs, and scholarship opportunities will be discussed by participating colleges. All secondary students and parents are welcome to attend.
