After needing several attempts to secure a spot in the playoffs, the baseball team didn’t waste the opportunity to advance, winning their bi-district series with the Frisco Raccoons 2-1. The Redhawks fell 7-3 on Thursday, but the team bounced back, winning 12-6 on Friday and 5-2 on Saturday.

“We came out timid in the first game, gave up a few runs early that made it tough to recover from, we were able to compete and come back a little but ran out of chances at the end,” head coach Scott McGarrh said. “We just had to make sure the kids stayed positive after that loss because we knew that if we could win the second game, we had a good chance of winning the whole series.”

A notable contributor to the success found at game two was playing at The Nest, and understanding that the team had to keep on fighting no matter what.

“We found ourselves in a hole after giving up a few runs early, but we stuck with our game plan and the home crowd energy gave us a boost,” senior Hunter Hamilton said. “I understood that I had to deliver some of the best pitches I could, and I’m glad that our batters were able to build the score in exchange.”

From then on, game three seemed like a lock with how fired up and confident the team was, especially as the Redhawks got out on top early.

“The energy and confidence were electric after the game two win as everyone understood that the momentum shifted for us while all the pressure was on them,” McGarrh said. “Our pitchers came out ready, completely shutting down Frisco and we took that opportunity to score four runs at the end of the first. Just super proud of the kids to keep themselves composed making it to areas.”
