Art students submit AP portfolios

Rather than taking a cumulative written test at the end of the year for evaluation, AP art students had to create and submit an individual portfolio of work by last Friday.

Whether it’s AP 2D Design, AP 3D Art, or AP Drawing, all AP art students created this portfolio.

“They have the entire year that they take the AP Studio Art course,” art teacher Pernie Fallon said. “They also have the summer before that, and sometimes they even use what they’ve created in previous art classes.”

Students in AP 2D Design were required to demonstrate mastery through 2D mediums such as graphic design, photography, collage, painting, printmaking, and fashion design, while students in AP 3D Art showed mastery through any 3D approach like sculptures, ceramics, glass work and ceramics.

Students in the AP Drawing class were asked to show a mastery of skills such as light and shade, composition, surface manipulation, and illusion of depth.

“They upload twelve images for what is called the breadth, where that shows their overall scope of understanding of the art principle,” Fallon said. “And then they also upload twelve more pieces that is part of their concentration, and this is a body of work that is themed around a topic that they have chosen to explore. They also send in five actual pieces of artwork that is their best representation of the work they do and their best quality of work.”
