Heading into homecoming week 0-3, the Redhawks football team hopes to secure a win Thursday when they take on Melissa at Toyota Stadium.
“It’s a big night for us because it is HoCo,” senior Reid Sommers said. “We are going to give it everything we got and leave it all on the field.”
Going deep into playoff rounds last season as well as holding a current record of 2-1, Melissa is sure to put up a fight Thursday according to head coach Matt Swinnea.
“I mean, obviously they’re a top 10 team, and you know, we’re having our struggles,” Swinnea said. “So I mean, the key for us is to shorten the game, and that means we’re going to have to run the ball and make them run the ball and try and keep it close and give ourselves a chance.”
Thursday is the Redhawks’ only game at Toyota Stadium this season. Being Frisco ISD’s only grass stadium, the preparation has looked a little different.
“I actually, I think Toyota is my favorite to play at,” Swinnea said. “Because it’s grass, that’s a little bit different. I mean, we do practice on grass a couple times a week, so it’s not that big a deal, except it’s more like on a putting green out there. It’s really, really nice.”
