The playoffs are calling their names for only the second time in school history, but the softball team (11-2) has one more hurdle to clear first. The Redhawks venture into McKinney to play the Emerson Mavericks Thursday at 6:30 p.m, seeking to avenge a 10-1 loss earlier in the season. Should they succeed, the team will enter the playoffs at the top of the District 11-5A standings, having concluded district play with eight consecutive victories and possibly five consecutive shutouts.
“I’m excited,” head coach Tiffany Thayer said. “We’ve grown a lot since that last matchup, and I’m hopeful that the outcome will be different this time around. We’re preparing with purpose, and I know the girls are hungry to prove themselves.”
For junior Sam Byrnes, the earlier loss serves as a catalyst for success.
“Losses are part of the game, but it’s how we respond that defines us — and our response is going to be loud and clear,” Byrnes said. “Our team is more motivated than ever, and we’re confident that we’ll bounce back and come out on top in our next matchup. The players are determined, our coaches are locked in, and we’ve got the Redhawk spirit pushing us forward. We’re grateful for the continued support from our fans and community, and we can’t wait to show what Liberty softball is really made of.”
