Sometimes you can win even when you lose. That’s the case for the baseball team (6-8) as they were still able to make the playoffs despite a 3-2 loss to Emerson (10-4) on Friday.
“I think we did well throughout the game even though we lost.” sophomore Carson Higgs said. “I thought we had good bats. We just need to become more sharp in the field.”
Entering the game against the Mavericks in a three way tie for the fourth and final playoff spot in District 11-5A, Lebanon Trail and Independence also lost, but the Redhawks won the tiebreaker courtesy of their earlier wins over the Blazers and Knights.
“Emerson’s good, so I’m really proud of them for their fight,” head coach Scott McGarrh said. “After losing, it was a little weird because we had to watch another game to see if the teams we needed to lose, lost. There was a three-way tie for fourth, but if you look at the records versus those teams, we won, so that’s how we advanced. But the kids played hard and it was just a very well played game.”
