While writing this, I’m lying in my hotel bed trying to catch up on schoolwork. The truth is, DECA ICDC hasn’t given me much time to study. Between theme parks, competition, and chapter activities, I’ve been constantly on the move—and school is just adding to the stress of the trip.
Before arriving, I created a full study plan to keep myself accountable and on track with deadlines. But sometimes, expectations don’t match reality. I’ve already missed an assignment because of how hectic things have been, and now I’m writing this at 3 a.m. on my phone—with 4% battery left.
I think this chaos has taught me something important: being able to study on a trip isn’t about following an insanely long study schedule. It’s about listening to your body and adjusting when needed.
School trips might look fun on the outside, but they can be emotionally and physically exhausting. From dealing with roommates to spending all day on your feet, it’s easy to feel exhausted. That’s why it’s so important to be kind to yourself and recognize when you need rest.
I often struggle with guilt when I’m not constantly working so reminding myself that I should also take breaks is difficult.
My general piece of advice is to keep track of deadlines but focus on having fun. After all, you only go on a school trip once in a while but school work is always right where you left it. Happy studying!
