The end of the Redhawks track and field season is officially over with senior Cayley Beaumont placing second in the UIL 5A State Championship Meet at UT-Austin on Friday.
“To me it means all my hard work has paid off, all my practice, everything Vay has done for me” Beaumont said. “It all has paid off.”
Both Beaumont and coach Khera Vay are proud of her season and accomplishments along the way leading up to the high placement at state.
“For me, Cayley going down there and placing second and getting on the podium stand is a huge accomplishment,” Vay said. “Like I said before, she put in a lot of time, effort, and extra work over the summer, during 4th period, and after school so it’s always nice as a coach when you get to see a kid’s effort, energy, and work pay off in the long run.”
Although Beaumont put in the effort and dedication, she was still surprised when she found out she won the silver medal.
“I kinda couldn’t believe it,” Beaumont said. “I was still shocked. It didn’t feel real, but I was very happy and it was exciting to be in that atmosphere.”
It’s not something Beaumont had experienced before and that’s what stood out to Vay.
“It was just a really cool experience, especially for a kid that’s never been down there. For her to handle the pressure, everything that comes along with traveling, her handling a different environment, and competing against the best of the best in the state,” Vay said. “I think she did very well and did a good job handling that and overcoming the adversity that could’ve come with that and placing second.”
While Vay is extremely proud of her runner, Beaumont is even more grateful for what her coach has done for her to help her along the way.
“She got me this far basically. She helped me with everything. We did Saturday practices sometimes, just her and I,” Beaumont said. “She took time out of her day to help me, which I am very appreciative for. She’s an amazing person.”
