I can’t believe I finished my last ever rotation at the hospital. It was a bittersweet moment knowing that the next time I’m going to be able to be this close to real experiences in the hospital will be during medical school rotations.
Health Science Clinical has been one of the best experiences I’ve had in high school. I doubt I will ever be able to be in a setting again where I can easily interact with patients, watch live births, shadow doctors, or observe life changing surgeries.
What made the program so special was that I entered the program not really knowing what I would learn in the program. I knew that I would work in the nursing home and get to rotate at the hospitals but I wasn’t sure what exactly I would be doing in those settings. I didn’t even really know what the certifications I would be receiving even were.
Even though I aspire to become a physician, the certifications I earned and the nursing skills I learned will be so important in teaching me basic patient care and will give me an advantage as a pre-med student as I begin college. Also, the basic empathy for patients that this program taught me will be helpful as I get exposed to more patient care settings.
More than the healthcare experience, I am so grateful for my class and my teacher. The nine other girls in my class have become some of my closest friends and my teacher was absolutely amazing. Through the unique experiences we’ve shared, they’ve truly been a second family to me at school. I have so many unforgettable memories and inside jokes with them that I know I will remember through college and my healthcare career.
I’m so grateful for the amazing opportunities, friendships, and memories I’ve made through this program. It’s been such a rewarding experience and I will forever cherish this as my first ever experience that made me 100% sure I wanted a career in healthcare. And even though this is the end of Health Science Clinical, it is the beginning of a career in healthcare for me.
