From reacting to a missed opportunity to celebrating with teammates following a win, emotions are everywhere in sports. And there’s plenty of reason to believe that they will be on full display when the volleyball team (28-4, 10-1) hosts the Independence Knights (13-12, 5-6) at the Nest Friday at 5:30 p.m.
For one, this game is the Redhawks’ senior night, marking the second-to-last time that five players – nearly half of their roster – will see their home court.
That’s not the only reason, though, as the team will be focused on getting revenge: despite having a lower overall record and being outscored 103-94, the Knights pulled a 3-2 upset victory over the Redhawks in September, handing them their first and only district loss to date and snapping a fifteen-match winning streak.
According to head coach Eighmy Dobbins, the loss has taught the team a lot about what to expect from their opponents this time around.
“We are working on the areas of the game that didn’t go well for us last time, and we will watch lots of film to learn from our past mistakes,” Dobbins said. “We need to be strong blockers and push well defensively.”
