Not content with just making it past the first round of playoffs and becoming bi-district champions, the volleyball team (32-4, 13-1 District 11-5A) now looks to advance even further as they face Walnut Grove (32-8, 12-2 District 9-5A) in the second round Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Prosper High School.
The two teams have already squared off once this season, with the Redhawks pulling off a 2-0 victory during the Arete tournament in August. However, head coach Eighmy Dobbins said the team saw two different versions of the Wildcats on the court during that match – one that scored only 14 points in the first set, and another that scored 25 in the second set – and have to be prepared to face the better version.
“We’ll have to be really good with preparing and executing our goals knowing what we saw last time,” Dobbins said. “We need to be super smart offensively and defensively, ready to make adjustments on the fly.”
Senior, outside hitter and Eckerd College commit Jaiden Harris, believes it’s a tall tas, but one that the Redhawks are more than capable of.
“There’s definitely a lot of added pressure because every team plays their best game in the playoffs,”Harris said. “But we know we belong in the playoffs, so we’re going to work as hard as we can to get a win.”
