The tennis team is hoping to bounce back Friday from its first District 13-5A loss when it takes on Heritage.

“We lost to Frisco but it was a close match so I think the season is promising,” senior Mallory Reed said. “[We are] practicing everyday and doing drills to improve our skills. If you need to work on serves, you serve, just specific to whatever you need to do.”

After the team’s first loss of the season, head coach Erica Dopson decided to change up the teams.

“I think it makes us reevaluate a few things and also maybe change some things up,” Dopson said. “Plus it also motivates the kids the next few weeks as they realize they have to work hard.”

With practice looking different than it has the past few weeks, the tennis team is also switching up it’s game play.

“So in practice we have changed up some drills,” Dopson said. “We are doing and focusing on their strengths and weaknesses to basically make their strengths even more effective in those matches and also how we pair up our teams.”

The 12-7 loss to Frisco on Sept. 16 isn’t keeping the team from focusing on its goals for the future.

“Ultimately we are trying to get the best team ready that can go the farthest in district, area and regions,” Dopson said. “Hopefully we try a few things out and if it works, we keep it that way and if it doesn’t we might change it up again.”
