Adding it all up
Wingspan: What made you want to teach in the FISD?
Delgado: “I applied to three schools but I felt Frisco was very supportive of their teachers, and they try to help them as much as possible. Out of those three interviews, especially Liberty, I felt the most comfortable with.”
Wingspan : Where did you teach prior?
Delgado: “I did my student teaching at McKinney North.”
Wingspan: What made you decide that you wanted to teach?
Delado: “At a very young age I always felt like I wanted to help people, and especially in teaching you can help students.”
Wingspan: What got you to follow the career to become a teacher?
Delgado: “I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. I would play school with my little brother when we were younger and would record his grades and give him homework. My other classmates would come to me for help and we would study together, and they would actually understand me more than they did the teacher because I was on their level.”
Wingspan : What do you like about this campus versus your previous one?
Delgado: “I really enjoy the people I work with, they make it really enjoyable. At my old campus everybody use to be in their own rooms , very separated. Here, we have the teacher work room, and we can collaborate and help each other, and I really like that.”
Wingspan: What is your biggest pet peeve as a teacher?
Delgado: “Phones! When kids are on their phones when they’re not suppose to be. Their attention is focused more on the phones than the material that were trying to get you guys to learn. Especially in math, if you miss one step it’s really hard to keep going because math is based on a lot of steps.”
Wingspan: What do you do for fun?
Delgado: “I like to go on walks and go out with my family. We always take a trip to Florida in the summer and go to Arkansas and we like going to the rivers. I enjoy going with my family and boyfriend.”
Wingspan: Where are you from and where did you grow up?
Delgado: “I was born in Chihuahua, Mexico. My parents brought me to the United States when I was three years old and we moved to Dallas to Oak Cliff ,and that’s where I went to elementary school and middle school. I would always trying to get to school early because you had to go through metal detectors, and get patted down just to get into the school. When I was going to start high school we moved to Mckinney, but since I lived on the outskirts, I went to Princeton High, and that’s where I graduated.”
Wingspan: What challenges did you overcome in your life?
Delgado: “I didn’t really have any challenges because my parents were always very supportive of me. I’m actually the first person in my family to graduate college, but it did take me 6 years to obtain my bachelors degree because for 2 years i had to work full time. I finished my last 2 years at Texas Womans University.”
