Wingspan: What made you choose the cello?

Hong: “I fell in love with the sound.”

Wingspan: When did you learn of your interest in music? When did you discover your talent? How has that changed you?

Hong: “When I listened to a lot on the radio when I was a kid, I asked my mom I need to play that instrument. I discovered it gradually by practicing a lot and gaining experience over time. It changed me by affecting my career choices and the things I do on a daily basis.”

Wingspan: When did you learn of your interest in music?

Hong: “When I was a kid.”

Wingspan: How do you prepare for a concert?

Hong: “I practice the night before then play with my dog to release stress and listen to the piece I am going to play to be less nervous.”

Wingspan: How do you handle mistakes during a performance?

Hong: “I make the mistakes beautiful.”

Wingspan: How does orchestra affect your everyday life?

Hong: “I practice a lot more than I do my homework.”

Wingspan: Are you considering this as a career?

Hong: “Yes.”

Wingspan: What’s been your favorite memory in orchestra?

Hong: “Our trip to Chicago was the best memory.”

Wingspan: How do you balance orchestra and your extracurriculars?

Hong: “I just practice when I get home then hang out with friends and my dog Billy.”
