Wingspan: What made you choose the trumpet?
Dinesh: “When I was trying out instruments before 6th grade, the trumpet was the only one that I could really make a sound on, so that’s the one I chose.”
Wingspan:What made you want to choose to do band?
Dinesh: “I had played piano since I was 5, so I wanted to continue playing a different instrument, and it ultimately came down to band versus orchestra and I just liked the band instruments more, and more of my friends were taking band.”
Wingspan:How does band impact your daily life?
Dinesh: “The main impact band has on my daily life is setting aside time to practice. It has a greater impact during marching season when I have to balance band with school and my personal life.”
Wingspan:Are you considering continuing band beyond? Why?
Dinesh: “I am definitely doing band my senior year just because of all the people I’ve met and memories I’ve made, but beyond that I’m not too sure because I haven’t really looked that far out yet.”
Wingspan:What are your personal goals for this year?
Dinesh: “One of my personal goals for this year is to get a 1 at the solo festival this spring, so I have been working on the music for that. I also wanted to make the region band in the fall, but it unfortunately did not happen.”
Wingspan:What is your favorite thing about marching band?
Dinesh: “My favorite part about marching band are the football games and performances/competitions. It is fun to spend time with other band members during games and showcase all the work we have done throughout the week at halftime and during competitions.”
Wingspan:How do you balance band, school, and any other extracurriculars?
Dinesh: “Balancing band and school isn’t too difficult during non-marching season, but during marching season I have to do my best to think ahead and not push everything to the last minute. Marching band has definitely taught me how to use my time wisely and complete what I need to do.”
Wingspan:What’s your favorite memory of the band?
Dinesh: “My favorite memory of the band would have to be Trunk-or-Treat last year. The trumpet section dressed up as different insurance companies and it was just a fun experience to be a part of.”
Wingspan:What is your advice to anybody thinking about joining the band?
Dinesh: “I would encourage them to take it and try it out. You meet a lot of new people and make new friends and memories. I have enjoyed my three years of high school in band, and I think new people joining will too.”
Wingspan:If you had to pick a different instrument to play what would it be?
Dinesh: I would choose to play saxophone if I had to pick another instrument because I wanted to play sax entering middle school. It also makes a nice sound and can be used in all types of music.
