Wingspan:How does theater impact your daily life?
Wallace: “Theater has positively impacted my life. I would sometimes watch a movie and me and my mother would just act out some of the scenes every now and then.”
Wingspan:Are you considering continuing theater beyond high school? Why?
Wallace: “Yes I do. Theater is one of those things that I never want to come to and end. I’d do my best to try to keep it in my life for as long as I can.”
Wingspan:What are your personal goals for this year?
Wallace: “My personal goals for this year is to become less shy and speak with more confidence.”
Wingspan:What is your favorite thing about theater?
Wallace: “My favorite thing about theater is the highly supportive community. I’ve never been in a theater class that I felt too scared to step out of my comfort zone. No matter where or what class i’m in, theater creates a sense of belonging to me.”
Wingspan:Do you audition/enjoy the plays that the school puts on?
Wallace: “Yes I do, and I enjoy being in them.”
Wingspan:What’s your favorite memory of theater?
Wallace: “My favorite memory in theater was my first show performance in 7th grade. The smiling faces at the end of the show is what inspired me to continue on with theater.”
Wingspan:What is your advice to anybody thinking about joining theater?
Wallace: “Just jump into it. It never hurts to join theater. If you think you are too shy, then that’s just more reasons to join theater.”
Wingspan:What is your favorite thing you have done in theater?
Wallace: “Improv has always been my favorite. I’m not the best at it but I love doing it.”
Armaan Coleman
Name: Armaan Coleman
Grade:12th
Future College: UC Davis
Future Job: Media Marketing
Years in Band: 7 years
Favorite Musician: Rick Astley
Wingspan: What made you choose the euphonium?
Coleman: “When trying out instruments back in the 6th grade, I already knew I wanted to play a low brass instrument. The tuba was too big for me, and the trombone was too long for my short arms; the euphonium felt comfortable and was a perfect fit.”
Wingspan: What made you want to choose to do band?
Coleman: “I thought making music was fun, and the band has a large population, so I thought I would be able to meet new people and make music.”
Wingspan: How does band impact your daily life?
Coleman: “It allows me to have something to do every day after school and on the weekends.”
Wingspan: Are you considering continuing band beyond? Why?
Coleman: “Still unclear, maybe marching band or just for fun but not as a major/career because I like doing band as a hobby, not as a chore.”
Wingspan: What are your personal goals for this year?
Coleman: “Learn to play my music, not be bad, and have a little bit of fun the rest of the year.”
Wingspan: What is your favorite thing about marching band?
Coleman: “The bus rides are by far the best part of marching band because all the band students are just having complete unadulterated fun, and we get to hype ourselves up to either perform in the stands or at a competition.”
Wingspan: How do you balance band, school, and any other extracurriculars?
Coleman: “I know if I have something to do, I’ll usually do any band-related work or practice to school hours and just organize all other things by priority and deadlines.”
Wingspan: What’s your favorite memory of the band?
Coleman: “Junior year, during one of our first live on-field performances, one of the drumline members tripped, and then a cascading line of people just fell right over each other. The next best one would be the entire baritone section getting locked out in the rain and getting lost at the star stadium.”
Wingspan: What is your advice to anybody thinking about joining the band?
Coleman: “Band is supposed to be fun and only to do it if you want to, never just feel as though you have to.”
Wingspan: If you had to pick a different instrument to play, what would it be?
Coleman: “Saxophone just so I could play careless whisper.”
