Grace Morgan
Name: Grace Morgan
Grade: freshman
Future Job: astronomer
Years in Dance: 10 Years
Role Model: mother
Favorite Type of Dance: anything but tap
Wingspan: How did you get into dance?
Morgan: “I got into dance when I was 6 years old and my mom’s friend owned a studio. She was like, “You should take dance at my studio”, and I did.”
Wingspan: Do you still keep in contact with her?
Morgan: “Yes, I still know her. I went to her wedding recently.”
Wingspan: Do you dance outside of school? If so, how many hours?
Morgan: “Yeah, I go to Prodigy Dance and Performing Arts Center and I dance like 25 hours a week.
Wingspan: Are you considering continuing dance outside of high school? If so, where?
Morgan: “Yeah, I wanna be on a college team. I wanna go to LSU. Their college team is the Tiger Girls. So that’s my main goal for after.”
Wingspan: What are your goals for drill team this year?
Morgan: “I just wanna make new friends, and like see like know more people in the hallways and stuff. Because like freshman year you don’t know that many people, so that definitely helps. And yeah, just grow as a dancer. I’m just gonna grow as a dancer.”
Wingspan: What is your favorite thing about drill team?
Morgan: “Oh my god! I love Friday night lights. Performing! Winning was the best feeling in the entire world. I love to perform. Practices are bad but performing makes it worth it!”
Wingspan: How do you feel the team will do this year?
Morgan: “Honestly, I have no idea. Because I don’t know what other drill teams are like, because I haven’t really had the chance to look at that yet. So I don’t really know if we’re good or bad. But, I think we’re pretty good. We’re pretty good.”
Wingspan: What is your advice for anyone considering joining drill team?
Morgan: “Do it! No guts, but seriously do it! It’s a good way to get involved, and I 10 out of 10 recommend. All the people are really sweet, and it counts for an athletic credit and fine art credit. So there is no reason not to!”
Wingspan: What is your favorite memory of drill team this year?
Morgan: “My favorite memory so far was last night. It was a ton of fun, because we won after that two point conversion. And everyone like the band was next to us too, and we all started like screaming. Which was fun! And then we went to What-a-Burger after. And the bus ride home, oh my god! That was, oh my god, hello, that was really fun. We were just singing the entire time like screaming.”
Wingspan: How does drill impact your daily life?
Morgan: “Well in the mornings, it’s awful. We get up at 5:00 in the morning to go to that 6:00 in the morning practice. And then we just kinda stay after the practice is done. We kinda just stay at the school to get ready, and then we have afternoon practice. Or, we have it in the middle of the day for a class. But yeah that’s about it. You have morning, during school, and then after school. Except for those days that like pep rallies and games and stuff. But those are fun!”
