Keith Kibler
Name: Keith Kibler
Grade: 11
Instrument: violin
Future College: undecided
Future Job: undecided
Years in Orchestra: 6
Inspiration: I am most inspired by Ian Worthington.
Favorite Musician: My favorite musician is Thom Yorke.
Wingspan: What made you choose the violin?
Kibler: “I wanted a main character instrument where I would play the melody, though to be honest I wish I could play all of the instruments in orchestra.”
Wingspan: What made you want to choose to do orchestra?
Kibler: “I love music, and the band is too loud for me. Stringed instruments can be more delicate and careful, which I loved more than the band.”
Wingspan: How does orchestra impact your daily life?
Kibler: “It gives me something to do in my free time, and it helps me work in teams.”
Wingspan: Are you considering continuing orchestra beyond? Why?
Kibler: “Yes. I love music and can’t imagine a life where I don’t love making it.”
Wingspan: What are your personal goals for this year?
Kibler: “I want to work on listening to other sections of the orchestra and looking up at the conductor while playing.”
Wingspan: What is your favorite thing about marching orchestra?
Kibler: “My favorite thing about orchestra is the community. Making music is nice, but how it brings us together is even more important to me.”
Wingspan: How do you balance orchestra, school, and any other extracurriculars?
Kibler: “I don’t have a system. I just usually cross my fingers and hope for the best.”
Wingspan: What’s your favorite memory of the orchestra?
Kibler: “The winter social my freshman year was magical. It was my first time seeing a big orchestra socially, and seeing everyone having so much fun really stuck with me.”
Wingspan: What is your advice to anybody thinking about joining the orchestra?
Kibler: “Do it. And listen to each instrument individually before you chose one.”
Wingspan: If you had to pick a different instrument to play what would it be?
Kibler: “I would pick viola, I think. I have a really loud sound that sometimes is too much for the violin to handle. A viola would work very well for me. It also has a less bright tone, which I like.”
