In this week’s edition of Artistic Expressions, Wingspan sits down with junior violinist Saesha Dravekar as she explains experiences thus far as a musician.

Saesha Dravekar

Name: Saesha Dravekar

Grade: 11th

Instrument: violin

Years in orchestra: 3

Wingspan: What instrument do you play and how long have you played it?

Dravekar: “I play the violin and I’ve been playing for 5 years now.”

Wingspan: Who is your biggest inspiration when it comes to doing Orchestra?

Dravekar: “When it comes to music in general my mom is my biggest inspiration. She teaches Hindustani Classical Vocals and supported me through doing Kathak (Indian Classical Dance) so fine arts has always been a big part of my life. She is able to do what she loves along with having her separate professional career really inspired me.”

Wingspan: What sparked an interest in you playing for Orchestra?

Dravekar: “I love all types of music and what not but after my brother graduated from being a percussionist his entire school journey I had already seen the journey of a band student and orchestra was particularly interesting to me because of the versatility of the music you can make and play.”

Wingspan: What’s the most challenging part about this, but additionally, what is the most rewarding aspect?

Dravekar: “The most challenging part of orchestra is definitely technique, it takes a great deal of practice and time to perfect technique and improve musicianship skills which I still have not fully learned all the aspects of being a good musician. The most rewarding aspect is sharing time and creating music with people who are as equally passionate about their instrument and making music with each other creates connections that cannot be regularly made.”

Wingspan: Do you see yourself playing your instrument in the future?

Dravekar: “I definitely see myself playing the violin in the future just as something for fun. It truly is fun and exciting to learn new music and reciprocate that in performing.”
