Our Town recently reached its first week of rehearsals, the actors and crew have around five weeks to prepare the show and set up the theater.

Lead actress and sophomore Kadence Phearse shares her thoughts on this play.

Wingspan: Would Our Town be the first work of theater you ever done?

Phearse: “I only did the Jungle Book when I was 8 where I played an elephant but I consider Our Town to be my actual first play.”

Wingspan: How are rehearsals for Our Town going?

Phearse: “Rehearsals are going great, I’m really excited since this is my first time doing something of this magnitude.”

Wingspan: Have you met with the whole team yet?

Phearse: “The team was there on saturday for about five hours, we got to meet each other and go over a full walkthrough of the play.”

Wingspan: What did the team do on this day?

Phearse: “After the practice actors had a chance to spyback as they call it, which is mainly an opportunity for actors to give their thoughts on the work they did and the parts they read.”

Wingspan: How was meeting this big group of people?

Phearse: “Meeting new people was great and when reading the play I was really moved by it and the way the stage manager read it. This story follows a very linear plot but a very dramatic one also.“

Wingspan: What’s the story mainly about?

Phearse: “The story is about a little town and life and death, how stable or drastic life can be.”

Wingspan: Have you done any type of theater outside of school meaning drama classes?

Phearse: “I’m doing drama classes which have been giving me an idea of what performance is and what directors look for. Also I want to expand in the theater industry because I definitely want to keep doing this kind of work in college. I want to major in an acting or drama related major.”
