Wingspan: What made you choose your instrument?

Choi: “I chose the violin because I had always loved how the violin sounded when hearing recordings of violin performances. I also loved the way musicians expressed emotion and thought with the violin, which was unique compared to other instruments.”

Wingspan: What made you want to join orchestra?

Choi: “Ever since I started learning the violin, I have always wanted to be a part of an orchestra. I had always thought that an orchestra made each instrument shine even more. I also thought that the idea of creating a piece with various tones of instruments was a cool part, especially since I could play the violin while interacting with other violinists as well as other instrument players.”

Wingspan: Are you considering playing your instrument after high school?

Choi: “As of now, I don’t plan on having a career related to my instrument. However, I do think it will be a part of my life as a hobby, where I would play the violin from time to time with my friends.”

Wingspan: How has music impacted your life and what does it mean to you?

Choi: “Music has given me a place where I can perform while interacting with other friends. It has also given me once in a lifetime, unique opportunities, such as auditions and concerts. For me, music is something that has given me the best memories and unforgettable experiences.”

Wingspan: What is your favorite memory with your instrument?

Choi: “I have several favorite memories with my violin, but the best of all of them are the concert days when I get to show my friends and family what I had been working on for the past few months. It is also really fun when I get to hear the other orchestras perform their pieces, which always makes me feels like I came to an orchestra concert.”
