Wingspan: What influenced you to join choir?
Ali: “I’ve been doing choir since fourth grade, so just kind of continuing that and trying to get all the way to graduation doing choir.”
Wingspan: When was your first experience with singing?
Ali: “My first experience with singing was when I was around maybe four or five. My dad is also a singer, so he kind of pushed me into doing it as well.”
Wingspan: What is your favorite aspect of choir?
Ali: “My favorite aspect of choir is working on the musicality, and once we’ve learned all our pieces, we add all the cool things like crescendos and decrescendos.
Wingspan: What are some challenges that you face while singing?
Ali: “Some challenges I face are like breath control and things like that. It takes a lot of air to sing especially when you have to go sing some of those high notes. Since I’m an alto and I sing on a lower register, it’s hard for me to sign up there, it takes a lot of air, so it’s more challenging.”
Wingspan: How has choir helped you expand your musical abilities?
Ali: “I think it’s made me more aware of the music I listen to every day. So the things that we learn about in choir I look and listen for in the music I listen to every day. I’m just more mindful and aware of that and understand music more better.”
