No playoff prosperity for volleyball in loss to Eagles

Volleyball had its postseason come to an early end after losing to Prosper 3-0 Tuesday night at McKinney High School in the first round of playoffs.

“I think we were just getting frustrated that we weren’t playing at the top of our game,” junior Madeline Hogan said. “So if we had just come together as a group and just stop being frustrated about all of our mistakes and go to the next point then I think we could’ve come back and won.”

It’s the third year in a row the time faced Prosper in the first round of the playoffs and the third straight loss to the Eagles in the postseason.

“I think that we could’ve done just a little better defensively,” head coach Ui’ Womble said. “I think a couple more blocks and a little more control and being able to run offense out of defensive would’ve got us a few more points.”

After losing to Prosper by two points in the fifth and deciding game last year, it was a different story Tuesday as the team lost 25-20, 25-14, 25-21.

“I think we could’ve gotten less frustrated and we could’ve played more as a team and not just individuals,” senior Meghan Johnson said. “We could’ve given it everything instead of accepting the lost.”

With the season over, the team begins to think about next year and how it will look different after seniors graduate and new freshmen join the program.

“We’ve got some pretty good kiddos returning next year,” Womble said. “But it’s hard to think about next year with the season just ending, but our goal is to get another gold ball and to make it past the first round and win more games, so I think we’ll start setting goals now.”

Although the season ended with a loss, players consider the season a success.

“It was a tough loss,” Hogan said. “But I’m still proud of my team because we made it to the playoffs.”
