Say It Louder: immigration ban doesn’t make sense
Three judges from San Francisco made the decision to place a suspension on Trump’s executive order prevent immigrants from seven countries from entering the United States. Trump is not pleased that his executive order was temporarily blocked. However, this decision was for the best.
The ban is like having a classroom full of people with peanut allergies and banning apples from entering the room. Many more Americans die from gun violence than terrorist attacks. There are bigger issues than the fact that Muslims are entering our country. We don’t stereotype all white Christians to be a part of the KKK, so why do we consider all Muslims to be to part of ISIS or some other terrorist group?
The seven countries that are affected by Trump’s executive order are all predominantly Muslim, banned on the premise that they are breeding grounds for extremists, despite the fact that there have been no terrorist attacks on the U.S. by these nations’ citizens. However, Saudi Arabia, who was involved in the 9/11 attacks, is not banned. Why? Likely because it is a major U.S. ally in the region and it also happens to have the second highest oil reserves in the world. If this point does not bother people, it should.
We should stop focusing on a problem that is not affecting our country as much as other things. We are supposed to be moving forward and and becoming more accepting as a nation rather than moving backwards.
The entire point of the American form of government and its check and balances is so that one person does not have total power and control; this is not a monarchy or a dictatorship. Not everything Trump wishes to do will be done and he needs to realize that his opinion is not the end all be all.
