Wingspan: How long have you been involved in dance, and what got you started?
Hancock: “I danced when I was younger and I was on a company team for a few years and now I’m on drill team. We live really close to The Dance Movement, so I kind of just took it up in elementary school and stuck with it.”
Wingspan: How often do you practice for drill team?
Hancock: “We have practice Monday through Wednesday in the morning and Thursday after school. During contest and spring season we also have practice on Friday mornings.”
Wingspan: What has been one of your greatest accomplishments through dance?
Hancock: “When I was on my company team I was really excited to get my pointe shoes because it was kind of like a milestone in my dance career.”
Wingspan: How did your competition season go this year for drill team?
Hancock: “We had a really successful contest season, and we placed third overall. It was out of all of the schools that were at the Frisco contest.”
Wingspan: Do you plan to continue Red Rhythm next year?
Hancock: “I’m going to be on Red Rhythm again, and I’m going to be taking more classes outside of school.”
Wingspan: What types of dance do you practice and which are your favorite?
Hancock: “Drill Team specializes in jazz, pom, military, and then kick. We do a little bit of hip-hop at pep-rallies. And then at spring shows we do more of contemporary and modern, which is my personal favorite.”
Wingspan: Why do you love to dance?
Hancock: “It’s just fun to perform and I just love all of the Red Rhythm girls. They’re fun to be around and it’s just a fun time.”
Wingspan: How do you think the spring show went?
Hancock: “From what people were saying, like older team members, they said it was one of the best, so I felt really good about it.”
