Wingspan: What made you choose the trombone?

Buss: “My dad played it and a lot of people throughout my family play the trombone and I thought it would be really cool and I was in 6th grade trying out the trombone and other instruments.”

Wingspan: When did you learn of your interest in music? Has your talent that changed you?

Buss: “I just remember from like a young age I really liked music in general and I wanted to be involved in it in some way.  Not really I just know that to get where I want to go I have to use hard work and not just my talent to get there.”

Wingspan: How do you prepare for a concert?

Buss: “Just a lot of practice of what I need to know in the song.”

Wingspan: How do you handle mistakes during a performance?

Buss: “After they happen I ignore them and focus on what I need to and I just live on with the mistake because it usually causes more mistakes.”

Wingspan: How does band affect your everyday life?

Buss: “It’s a lot of extra work you have to put into it but most of the time it pays off.”

Wingspan: Do you view music as a way to express yourself? Why or why not?

Buss: “Yes, definitely, what you play and how you play expresses what you’re into.”

Wingspan: What’s been your favorite memory in band?

Buss: “In 8th grade, we went on a trip and it snowed really hard and we were just out of school for like a whole day.”

Wingspan: If you had to pick another instrument to play, what would it be? Why?

Buss: “Trumpet mainly because a lot of friends play it and it seems really fun.”

Wingspan: How do you balance band and your extracurriculars?

Buss: “I try to focus on my classes and then the stuff I do in band. Mostly it’s just knowing what to do and when to do it.”
