Band hosting concert to prepare for UIL
March 28, 2018
The three concert bands will be performing a pre-UIL concert Wednesday in the auditorium from 7-9 p.m.
“One of my favorite pieces is ‘Profanation,’” junior Wind Ensemble member Sid Sadhu said. “It was a good challenge for me, because there’s a lot of different time signatures in it, and there’s a lot of history behind it.”
This event is to prepare the students for their upcoming UIL competition, as well as to give their parents and friends an idea of what they invest so much of their time and energy into.
“Pre-UIL is a great opportunity to go through the exact same process that we’ll go through at UIL, in that we’ll have our concert portion and our sight reading portion” assistant band director Zach Anderson said. “It gives the students a good opportunity to showcase what we’ve been working on thus far.”
The Music Program of the UIL is designed to support and enrich the teaching of music as an integral component of the public school curriculum in the state of Texas.
“I always go down to practice during advisory to warm up and get ready for band,” junior wind ensemble member Jake VanCura said. “The pieces that we’re playing are hard enough that we need all the time we can get to prepare for them. ”
