Say it Louder: Face your fears
A great example of the saying “a loss is a gain” is losing or conquering a fear. I have many fears; some small, some big, but most unlikely and/or irrational. Everyday, I try to get over them one at a time. These fears have stopped me from doing so many things and one of my main goals in life is to simply live without fear.
Fears hold us back from doing everyday things. For instance, someone that is afraid of heights will never want to experience the thrill of being on a rollercoaster. Someone who is afraid of being abducted might not even walk their dog alone. I, for a long time, have been afraid of going to movies or concerts due to shootings that have occurred in places like these.
Living with many fears holds us back from living at all. With all these fears, we spend our lives avoiding them rather than spending our lives just living. Probably the most common fear amongst society is the fear of the failure. Failure can mean different things to different people, but it really seems like everyone is scared of “failing at life.”
The only way to get over fears, as I’ve been learning, is to face them head on. I’m scared of snakes. My brother has a pet snake, so I held it. Now, snakes aren’t as scary to me. This is a very small and minuscule example, but the point remains. Take your fear, whatever it may be, and face it. The sooner you do it, the sooner your fear will start to diminish.
