Oh, Crickets

Every year in October, Frisco undergoes a cricket invasion, prompting one student to wish for the disappearance of these creatures.

Oh, crickets

OH, CRICKETS

Get out get out get out

CNN student news has been telling me about

how nutritional you are

If you don’t get out

I will call a gourmet restaurant

to eat you alive

Where’s the exterminator?

I’m asking you, WHERE IS THE EXTERMINATOR?

chirp, chirp, chirp

Nowhere.

Crickets infesting

the fine arts hallway

the dance locker rooms

the auditoriums

Ruining

the school

and my high school experience

Is it mating season?

If so, cast your mating calls elsewhere

Your lifelong partner isn’t here

Go back to the corn field

where you belong

where you will stay

Forever

Is it because of the cold?

Deal with it

Like your ancestors did

They did not have

heated buildings to hide in

and neither should you

Crickets

Insects

Disgusting

Hated by everyone

A disturbance

Intruders that the police can’t do anything about

Just leave me alone

Let us go to school

in peace

Stop bugging us

Go, run along to the corn fields

You’re just like your cousin, the grasshopper

Who did not prepare for the winter

Crickets, crickets, go away

Come again a NEVER day
