Katherine Love

Grade: 11th

Future college: Unknown

Future Job: Veterinarian

Years singing: 6

Inspiration: My grandfather

Favorite artist: Birdy

Wingspan: When and how did you discover your talent?

Love: “I have always loved singing; one of my earliest memories is of me singing in a grocery store when I was three. As I got older, more people started telling me that I sounded really good, which I didn’t believe (and still don’t at times) but I started trying out for things like choirs and musicals just to see what I could do and to try to push myself out of my comfort zone a bit.”

Wingspan: What got you into singing?

Love: “My family has always listened to a lot of music; my grandfather especially. He has shelves upon shelves of CDs and records that he always plays for me whenever I visit. He is always singing, whistling, just making music, which has given me a real appreciation for music and singing and made me want to do more with it.”

Wingspan: How has choir changed your life?

Love: “I have definitely come out of my shell a lot more. I struggle a lot with stage fright and being loud, and being in choir has helped me improve somewhat. I have made so many friends and memories, that I know I will look back on fondly after high school.”

Wingspan: How does your family support your singing?

Love: “My parents are very supportive of my singing. They sign me up for voice lessons and always come to all of my performances. My family out of the country also loves hearing about my singing and performing, especially my grandfather.”

Wingspan: How do you handle mistakes during a performance?

Love: “I usually just have to pretend like it didn’t happen and keep going. Sometimes during more relaxed or less professional performances, though, I’m able to laugh it off a bit.”

Wingspan: What is your favorite genre to sing?

Love: “I love slow, ballad-type songs; usually indie/folk music.”

Wingspan: Do you plan on pursuing this as a career?

Love: “Not really. I think if the opportunity to make a successful career out of my singing came up, I’d probably take it but for now my goal and my passion is veterinary medicine.”

Wingspan: Have you ever thought about writing your own songs?

Love: “Yes, I have. I’m not good at writing the actual music, but I do really enjoy writing lyrics, which I do do sometimes.”

Wingspan: When you aren’t singing, what are you doing?

Love: “I work at an animal rescue that I’m very passionate about and takes up a lot of my time; I’m in orchestra, I play the cello,I love reading and spending time with my pets.”

Wingspan: Who motivates you the most?

Love: “My friends. They are so supportive of me and always motivate me with their kind words and enthusiasm. They make me want to work hard, not just in my singing, but in my everyday life too.”
