Say It Louder: Necessary failure

Whether it’s something about school, being a student, or a social issue, columnist Emma Cramption tries to make sure her message is heard in her weekly column “Say it Louder”.

Failure is something most people tend to avoid. The truth is, however, that failures and setbacks are simply a part of the road to success. Those who do not make mistakes are those who do nothing. The sooner I accepted the fact that making mistakes and having moments of weekend were just part of the process of doing well, the less stressful things got for me.

Most people, especially at our age (including myself), have a problem accepting when things in our life go wrong. Whether it’s a failing grade on a test, or something on a more serious level, our minds tend to shut down at any sense of failure. We give up and negative thoughts flood our minds with “I’m dumb”, “I’m a failure”, “I can’t do anything right”, etc. The fact of the matter is, though, these things are inevitable and they can actually work out for you for the better.

As I previously stated, those who do not make mistakes are those who do nothing. What I mean by this is that there are people who just get by in life without making significant mistakes, and it’s because they don’t do anything significant period. It’s much better to do something big at the risk of failing than doing nothing at all.

The risk of something bad occurring or failure happening is going to be there no matter what you do. Ultimately, it’s up to you whether or not we take that risk. I truly believe that failing is a part of everyday life and it’s actually essential in order to succeed.

Nobody that has accomplished anything great got there by just drifting by. You have to make the choice to face failure and move past it.
