Wingspan: What is it like being in varsity choir as a freshman?
Deforest: “It’s kind of intimidating because there is a lot of talented people. It’s also good since I get a challenge from it”
Wingspan: How has it affected your life?
Deforest: “It shows me good work ethic, and I’m singing, and I love to sing.”
Wingspan: What’s been your favorite memory?
Deforest: “I sang the national anthem at Barretts game, a baseball game, so that was pretty cool.”
Wingspan: How do you prepare for a show?
Deforest: “For solo shows I do a couple warms up before, but I don’t like to sing a lot before the show since I don’t want to be tired. For choir concerts, we usually warm up as a whole choir.”
Wingspan: What have you learned about yourself through the arts?
Deforest: “I’ve learned that I definitely have a passion for music, like I’ve never theater before, but I really love to act. I love it, I just think it’s great.”
Wingspan: Are you considering to pursue a musical career?
Deforest: “Definitely, it will probably start with singing at a few gigs, but I would like to try out for American Idol.”
Wingspan: How do you handle your mistakes during a performance?
Deforest: “I just keep singing.”
Wingspan: What’s the biggest challenge of being in varsity as a freshman?
Deforest: “The biggest challenge is probably sight reading, the music just by itself is definitely more advanced. As I said before the advanced music and sightreading it gives me a challenge, it helps me learn more.”
Wingspan: What is your advice to anyone who aspires to be in the arts?
Deforest: “You definitely have to work for it, it’s not just something people say you’re a natural. You have to work for it, you have to do exercises, and really be committed to it.”
